Can you volunteer your sous chef skills? There is still space for parents/caregivers to join in the fun. Fill out the Volunteer Form here. Saturday, February 11 at 11:00am, Black Heritage Walking Tour. Join us for a walking tour of the historic Shaw and U Street neighborhoods. In the early 20th century, these neighborhoods were the heart of DC’s Black community, and the home of Black Broadway and Black leaders in the law, sciences, and the arts. In these neighborhoods, Black Americans could thrive and find refuge against the harshness of segregation. We hope you’ll join us in learning more about this aspect of DC’s rich history. Parents/caregivers will meet at the 13th Street entrance to the U Street/ African-American Civil War Memorial/Cardozo Metro Station at 11:00am on February 11. The tour will last approximately one hour. Rain date: March 4.
Wednesday, February 15 at 6:30 pm, Virtual Freedom Readers Circle for Children. Parents/caregivers will host their own virtual Freedom Readers circle. They will read a frequently banned children’s book The 1619 Project: Born on the Water by Nikole Hannah-Jones and Renée Watson. After reading the book (in English and Spanish) as a group, students will be led in a discussion. This activity will include a discussion of slavery in the United States and may be less appropriate for PreK students. Join Zoom Meeting (Meeting ID: 932 8762 4776 / Passcode: 6jLmBE)

COMMUNICATIONS, INFORMATION & QUESTIONS
Consistent with our commitment to diversity, sustainability, and wellness, we ask families to not send your child/ren to school with candy on Tuesday, February 14.
As a school, Mundo Verde practices a commitment to embrace and celebrate social events that are aligned with our mission and priorities. Our school celebrations focus on cultural heritage and diversity, and we invite families to share their experiences. As a school, we refrain from celebrating days or traditions that may show preference of one group over another or do not align with our school policies. Hence, we do not celebrate holidays such as Valentine’s Day, Halloween, and holidays of a solely religious nature. For families who value holidays that are not observed at the school, we encourage them to continue the celebrations at home.
This content can be found in the Family Handbook on page 21 in English, and page 23 in Spanish.
From feedback on School Interactions and Familiarity with the Mundo Verde Educational Model, see here the new blog post that shares data and analysis from recent Possip pulse surveys.

For health/medical conditions, please notify your campus nurse, so they may best care for them. Feel free to email Health and Safety Manager, Angeline Vergara at avergara@mundoverdepcs.org.
