Summer Program Family Update #5

Dear Summer Program Families,

This is our 5th and last communication to you after the launching of the 2022 Summer Program! Please be reminded that the program ends Wednesday, August 10.

STUDENT SUPPORT TEAM

The Student Support Team (SST) has been privileged to serve you and your children through the Extended School Year (ESY) Program. Although we draw close to the end of the program, regular student attendance is still important. Please be on the lookout for ESY IEP Progress Reports which will be shared the week after the end of the summer program. If you have any questions, please contact Jezelle Estrado, Inclusion Coordinator, at jestrado@mundoverdepcs.org.

FIELD TRIPS TO KENILWORTH AQUATIC GARDENS

J.F Cook Campus
Thank you to the JF Cook families for preparing your children to have a successful and fun time during their visit to the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens. The children kept hydrated as they spied turtles, frogs, lizards, butterflies, dragonflies, and birds, including a blue heron. Help us bridge the gap between home and school by asking your child(ren) what animals populate the gardens. Or, what is the name of the plant that is currently blooming at the gardens. We send a special thank you to the parent chaperones for being part of the field trips and especially for your patience when the bus was late!

SPORTS CLINICS

The students have enjoyed a variety of sports clinics, including basketball, floor hockey, kickball, and soccer during the summer program. Below are a few pictures of the 3rd Grade in a soccer clinic at the J.F. Cook Campus.

LEARNING EXPOS ON FRIDAY, AUGUST 5

Thank you for joining us during the learning expositions. The children were eager to share their achievements with you. Below are a few photographs of their learning process and products.

We wish you a great rest of your summer! If you have any questions, please email summer@mundoverdepcs.org.

Sincerely,

We had our first field trips to the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens this week during which the children showed to be impressive stewards of nature! They asked the park rangers great questions about the plants and animals they saw. They left no trace behind after their lunch. Without a doubt, they earned their ranger badges!

Summer Program Family Update #2

Dear Summer Program Families,

This is our second communication to you after the launching of the 2022 Summer Program on Monday, July 11!  Currently, we have fewer students enrolled in the summer program than expected.  On the upside, this makes for a low student/teacher ratio allowing for personalized instruction.  On the downside, we may need to combine grade groups and reduce contracted specialties. More news to come on this front!

PAYMENTS

We ask families to pay their remaining balance for the summer program by July 18. If you do not know the amount of your balance you can email summer@mundoverdepcs.org

SCHOOL MEALS
It is not too late to sign up!  Families can now login and sign-up for the school lunch.  We fixed the problem with sign ups by reopening the school meal tab in the school store. Do not hesitate to email summer@mundoverdepcs.org if you have trouble signing up. Breakfast is free for all the students in the program.

PERMISSION SLIPS TO KENILWORTH GARDENS
Families are reminded to submit their permission slips for the field trip to the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens by July 22, 2022 to their child’s classroom teacher. We welcome 1 parent chaperone per grade group. Chaperones must submit negative Covid19 test results. Please inform your child’s teacher of your interest. If you need a paper copy of the permission slip, ask your child’s teacher or the front desk. Here are the permission slips organized by grade cohorts:

STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES
Extended School Year (ESY) is off to a great start!  Our special educators and related service providers are excited to continue working with your children. We will continue to share critical information with families as we go through the summer.

ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL PROCEDURES
We seek your support with the Arrival and Dismissal Process. We ask families to walk your Rising Kinder student(s) to the daily entrance point and to check them in with the teachers on a daily basis.  Teachers will not accept Rising Kinder students without a parent check-in.  Help us keep your children safe!

Please review the arrival and dismissal procedures for the summer program:

Find your child’s Grade Cohort designation for arrival purposes and to locate your child’s daily routine in the schedules below:

PROGRAM LEARNING AND SCHEDULES
Students are enjoying their book clubs where they are reading in Spanish in all grades.  Early readers are learning to read and upper learners are practicing their comprehension.  All the students are exploring and practicing grade level math skills in preparation for the upcoming school year.  As well, the students are expanding their science knowledge. Note: Your child may come home asking for supplies such as plastic water bottles, paper rolls, or other items for the classroom science projects.

Ask your child how his/her day went, and do not hesitate to give us feedback based on what you learn!

Here are the program schedules for you to view your child’s day-to-day activities.

Welcome to the 2022 Summer Program!

Dear Summer Program Families,

We are super excited to see you on the first day of the 2022 Summer Program Monday, July 11 at 8:30am!  We have a great team who - after a short break - is ready to offer your children a unique summer learning experience!

Here are the key reminders and information to help your arrival and participation.

  • Buy the Mundo Verde T-shirt uniform (if you do not have them) in Infinite Campus Parent Portal (discounted for FARM families). Students must wear these everyday!

PROGRAM SCHEDULES

This year’s program is designed to recuperate learning loss and prepare children for the upcoming school year. You will see in the schedules below, blocks of time are reserved for specific curricula activities dependent on your child’s grade.

There is no shortage of fun as creative arts, music, and gardening enrichments, and as much outside time and play - as weather permits - are embedded in the program.

FIELD TRIP

We are excited to announce that we will be taking the children on a field trip to the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens as part of their sustainability learning during the SY22 Summer Program. Students will have the opportunity to engage with the Junior Ranger Program who will lead fun explorations of the park’s habitat, the plant and animal life and its history as one of 400 National Parks set aside for protection in the United States.

Each campus will travel to the gardens by grade groups on different days. We ask families to fill out and return by July 15, 2022 the permission slip for your child:

HEALTH & SAFETY

Masking

Currently, Mundo Verde is reviewing the indoor mask policies. For now, indoor masks remain mandatory in the Summer Program until further notice. Outdoor masks remain optional.

Testing

Covid testing will proceed bi-weekly (every other Monday) starting from Monday 7/11 and continue through the end of summer school, assuming community spread remains at low level. Covid testing consent forms will not need to be resubmitted, as summer school is a continuation of our 21-22 school year. We will immediately notify individuals/their guardians of a positive Covid test result. We will be testing 10% of our unvaccinated population.

Our Summer school staff will have access to Covid testing as needed for symptomatic presentations and post exposure testing. This will be facilitated via self antigen testing and saliva PCR testing, as appropriate.

Test-to-Stay

We will continue to provide Test To Stay as an alternative to those who would have otherwise needed to quarantine, post exposure.

If you have any questions, please email summer@mundoverdepcs.org. See you on Monday!

Sincerely,

Gloria Quirarte
Director of Extended Day Programming
