Summer Program Family Update #4

Dear Summer Program Families,

This is our 4th communication to you after the launching of the 2022 Summer Program on July 11! We had our first field trips to the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens this week during which the children showed to be impressive stewards of nature! They asked the park rangers great questions about the plants and animals they saw. They left no trace behind after their lunch. Without a doubt, they earned their ranger badges!

ARRIVAL/DISMISSAL
We thank all the families for supporting us with the arrival and dismissal protocols making the morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up safe and fluid for the children.

Kinder continues to emphasize skills and learning related to addition and subtraction. 1st and 2nd grade continue to learn about units and decimals with smaller to greater numbers. 3rd-5/6th continue to practice their multiplication.  Please feel free to work on these skills at home in efforts to better prepare students for the incoming school year.

Special planting projects
In all the grades, specialists and teaching teams are working with the children to plant different kinds of seeds including beans and radishes using a variety of planting receptacles. They are exploring the school gardens and drawing its plant life.

SCHOOL MEALS
Thank you to the families who have submitted the school meals form. Having these has helped us reduce food waste!

FIELD TRIP TO KENILWORTH AQUATIC GARDENS

Calle Ocho Campus
Thank you to the Calle Ocho families for preparing your children to have a successful and fun time during their visit to the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens.  While the weather was humid, there was some breeze and shade. The children kept hydrated as they observed turtles, listened for frogs and spied different birds. Help us bridge the gap between home and school by asking your child(ren) what animals populate the gardens. Or, what is the name of the plant that is currently blooming at the gardens. We send a special thank you to the parent chaperones for being part of the field trips!

J.F. Cook Campus
In preparation for the upcoming field trips, we ask students to dress in comfortable, cool clothing and shoes for hiking. Please remember to send your child(ren) with a water bottle to keep hydrated. They are also encouraged to wear hats for protection from the sun. Sun lotion should be applied before the children arrive at school. Students will not be allowed to share sun lotion in an effort to avoid allergic impact.

The school buses will depart at 9:00am and return by 1:00pm in the afternoon. Students will have lunch at the gardens. Families seeking to be a chaperone on the trip with their child’s group must submit a negative Covid test by the Friday prior to the day of the field trip via email to covid19@mundoverdepcs.org. Only one chaperone per grade group will be allowed due to bus capacity. Families with a child whose medication must travel with them are especially invited to support us by joining the field trip as chaperones!
