Parent Teacher Conferences
June 22

Parent Teacher Conferences are an important opportunity for families and teachers to discuss strengths, challenges, and student progress across both social-emotional and academic indicators. Teachers share their observations and answer questions. Especially for young learners, the development of baseline social-emotional skills are critical building blocks for academic learning. Discussing your child's progress with teachers helps parents and caregivers develop strong partnerships so that whenever possible learning at home and learning at school are aligned and supportive. Students are generally not present during these conferences.

Your child’s teacher will be happy to answer any questions you might have about Parent Teacher Conferences. Please email them directly.

EVENTS & ACTIVITIES

Equitable Access (At-risk) School Preference Information Session
June 22, 9:00am, 12:00pm and 3:00pm

Mundo Verde is considering applying for the At-risk Enrollment Preference that was created by the DC Council in 2020. We are currently seeking feedback from caregivers and staff. The leadership team will make its recommendation to the Mundo Verde Board in July. If we apply and are approved, a staff and caregiver taskforce will be created to make a recommendation about whether and how to implement the preference for the SY23-24.

At-risk designation includes students identified as experiencing homelessness, qualifying for government benefits including TANF and SNAP, under the care of CFSA/foster care, and over-aged/under-credited in high school.

To learn more about this, please attend one of our scheduled information sessions on June 22 at three different times: 9:00am, 12:00pm and 3:00pm.

Board Meeting
June 30, 6:30pm

The Mundo Verde Board of Directors will be holding a Regular Board Meeting on Thursday, June 30, 6:30pm.

All regular and special board meetings are open to the public, providing the opportunity for stakeholders to observe board operations. The meeting will take place virtually from 6:30 to 8:30pm.

To participate as an observer in the Board Meeting, please complete this registration form.

For questions related to the meeting, email board@mundoverdepcs.org

COMMUNICATIONS, INFORMATION & QUESTIONS

NEW! Honoring Juneteenth

Juneteenth marks the day a major general of the Union Army arrived in Galveston, Texas, to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation and free the last enslaved Americans in Texas, two months after the end of the Civil War and nearly two a half years after President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation.  As President Biden noted in remarks after signing the bill creating the federal holiday in 2021, "the truth is, it’s not — simply not enough just to commemorate Juneteenth. After all, the emancipation of enslaved Black Americans didn’t mark the end of America’s work to deliver on the promise of equality; it only marked the beginning.”  With that commitment in mind, families/caregivers will find below resources for honoring and talking to children about race and equity.

NEW! Outstanding Balances in Infinite Campus

As the school year comes to an end, we remind you to visit the Infinite Campus Family Portal to check if you have an outstanding balance for school meals, snacks, and Extended Day program. To check your payment history you can go to “Account” and then “Payment History”.

Welcoming New Families - Volunteers Needed!

After two challenging school years, we are all looking forward to a more ‘normal’ summer and fall. In the coming weeks, we will be planning how to welcome families that will be joining our community very soon! If you are interested in supporting our campus and school-wide welcome efforts, please fill out this brief form. We are excited to collaborate with families currently enrolled at Calle Ocho and Cook Campus in helping us embody the spirit of CREW this summer and fall! If you have any questions please contact Cristina Faz at cfaz@mundoverdepcs.org

Summer Program - School Meals

Meals Sign-Up
If your child needs meals during the summer program, you must sign up for meals by placing an order in the School Store through Infinite Campus.

  • Meal drop-in service is not available.

  • Families should commit to either eating school meals or bringing meals from home; the kitchen needs to plan how much to prepare to achieve our Zero Waste goals.

  • You only need to place one ‘order’ for meals.

You can sign up for meals for the summer program until June 30. For detailed instructions on placing an order for meals, click here for English and Spanish.

Meal Fees
The federal program to provide free meals to all students ends on June 30 and Mundo Verde will thus resume charging a fee for lunch for students who do not qualify for Free or Reduced meals (FARM) Breakfast will continue to be provided to ALL students at no charge. Lunch prices will remain the same as they were in SY19-20. Lunch at Calle Ocho is  $4.50  and $4.85 at J.F. Cook

Paying for Meals
The lunch fee will be added to a student's food service account in Infinite Campus when they are served lunch. Meals will no longer be billed on a monthly basis. Families who do not qualify for Free or Reduced meals (FARM) must add funds into their Food Service Account in the Parent Portal to pay for meals - instructions here
