Parent Teacher Conferences are an important opportunity for families and teachers to discuss strengths, challenges, and student progress across both social-emotional and academic indicators. Teachers share their observations and answer questions. Especially for young learners, the development of baseline social-emotional skills are critical building blocks for academic learning. Discussing your child's progress with teachers helps parents and caregivers develop strong partnerships so that whenever possible learning at home and learning at school are aligned and supportive. Students are generally not present during these conferences.
Your child’s teacher will be happy to answer any questions you might have about Parent Teacher Conferences. Please email them directly.
HEALTH & SAFETY
Calle Ocho Campus
The day-to-day safety of our community is our priority. Please help us:
Drive following the circular traffic pattern around the school. Remember you are driving in a school zone.
Maintain the 15 mile/hour school zone speed limit.
Always give the right of way to pedestrians.
Avoid dangerous maneuvers such as U-turns and three-point turns
Only park in legal spots, including the Providence parking lots located at 817 Varnum St NE. Please park in the areas designated for Mundo Verde, and do not park in any of the on-campus spots.
Avoid using the alleys, and instead use 10th St. or 12th St. to approach or leave the school. Do not drive or park in alleys; they are not designed to be used as shortcuts.
Do not double-park on Varnum St. or 8th St. or in the private lot of Washington Jesuit Academy
Ignoring these rules delays the completion of arrival and dismissal by increasing traffic congestion and also strains our relationship with our neighbors.
You can find the full arrival and dismissal procedures on the parent portal.
For up-to-date information and statistics on how we are containing the spread of Covid-19, visit the Health & Safety section on the website.

Mundo Verde is considering applying for the At-risk Enrollment Preference that was created by the DC Council in 2020. We are currently seeking feedback from caregivers and staff. The leadership team will make its recommendation to the Mundo Verde Board in July. If we apply and are approved, a staff and caregiver taskforce will be created to make a recommendation about whether and how to implement the preference for the SY23-24.
At-risk designation includes students identified as experiencing homelessness, qualifying for government benefits including TANF and SNAP, under the care of CFSA/foster care, and over-aged/under-credited in high school.
To learn more about this possibility, we are scheduling Informative Sessions on June 22 at three different times: 9:00am, 12:00pm and 3:00pm.
New Date: June 30
Due to calendar conflict of some of the members of the board of directors, we find it necessary to postpone the meeting scheduled for June 16. The new date is June 30.
For questions related to the meeting, email board@mundoverdepcs.org
COMMUNICATIONS, INFORMATION & QUESTIONS
After two challenging school years characterized by health restrictions and constant variables, we are all looking forward to a more normal summer and fall. In the coming weeks we will be discussing and planning for different efforts to welcome families that will be joining our community next academic year. If you are interested in supporting our campus and school-wide welcome efforts, please fill out this brief form. We are excited to collaborate with families currently enrolled at Calle Ocho and Cook Campus in helping us embody the spirit of CREW this summer and fall! If you have any questions please contact Cristina Faz at cfaz@mundoverdepcs.org
Meal Sign-Up
If your child needs meals during summer the program, you must sign up for meals by placing an order in the School Store through Infinite Campus.
Meal drop-in service is not available.
Families should commit to either eating school meals or bringing meals from home; the kitchen needs to plan how much to prepare to achieve our Zero Waste goals.
You only need to place one ‘order’ for meals
You can sign up for meals for the summer program until June 30. For detailed instructions on placing an order for meals, click here for English and Spanish.
Meal Fees
The federal program to provide free meals to all students ends on June 30 and Mundo Verde will thus resume charging a fee for lunch for students who do not qualify for Free or Reduced meals (FARM) Breakfast will continue to be provided to ALL students at no charge. Lunch prices will remain the same as they were in SY19-20. Lunch at Calle Ocho is $4.50 and $4.85 at J.F. Cook
Paying for Meals
The lunch fee will be added to a student's food service account in Infinite Campus when they are served lunch. Meals will no longer be billed on a monthly basis. STUDENT & FAMILY SUPPORT
The work of the Student Support Team (SST) is one manifestation of Mundo Verde’s mission, values, and operational commitment to diversity. The Student Support Team of more than 50 professionals provides an array of services for students and their families to support positive academic, physical, social/emotional, and behavioral outcomes for students.
Please visit the Student Services Page on the school website to read more about the services provided for students who may be experiencing social, behavioral, and/or mental health challenges; may require either physical or academic accommodations; may require on-campus support during classes, at recess, and/or during lunch; may be homeless; and may face other challenging circumstances.
If you feel that you or your child may need these kinds of services, or you have questions, please contact Norma Villanueva, Director of Student Services, at nvillanueva@mundoverdepcs.org.
COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENTS

(1-299 South Carolina Ave SE, metro & bus accessible)
PADRES and Comunidad, the parent and caregiver associations from both Mundo Verde campuses, invite all students, teachers, staff and their families to a celebration of the conclusion of the school year!
PADRES (J.F. Cook) and Comunidad (Calle Ocho), have partnered with Corazón Latino, a nonprofit organization founded by current Mundo Verde parent, Felipe Benítez, to host this event with fun activities, music, treats and community building activities across campuses.
PADRES and Comunidad were both formed in part to foster a sense of belonging and shared experiences among families in our school communities. Corazón Latino regularly hosts events meant to generate social, environmental and conservation initiatives - we are thrilled about this natural partnership! https://www.corazonlatino.us/.
Please mark your calendar to join the cross-campus celebration! And let us know if you plan to attend HERE so we can ensure adequate water and treats.
The school is excited to provide support to make Celebración successful, though this is not a school-sponsored event. If you have any questions please contact J.F. Cook parent/caregiver Christina Scarlato at christinascarlato@gmail.com, and Calle Ocho parent/caregiver Laura Malaguerra lauramalaguerra@gmail.com.
