Keeping Our School Healthy

Recently our school community has had a rise in viral infections. We need your collaboration to slow the transmission of illnesses. To protect everyone, we ask that students stay at home when they are sick. Students must remain fever free for 24 consecutive hours without the use of fever reducing medications prior to returning to school. Help our school community prevent the spread of illnesses by following these recommendations:

  • Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, or use an alcohol based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol

  • Perform frequent hand hygiene:

    • Before and after eating food

    • Before and after group activities

    • After using the toilet

    • Before and after putting on, touching, or removing cloth face coverings

    • Touching your face

  • Frequently disinfect high touch surfaces that may be contaminated

School Closures and Delays Due to Inclement Weather

Mundo Verde follows D.C. Public Schools’ (DCPS) decision regarding changes in the school schedule due to inclement weather. In the event of a delayed opening, the before school program is canceled. In the event of early dismissal, the after school program is canceled. In some cases, the school reserves the right to make a different decision than the one made by DCPS if necessary.

Information about school closures and delays is available through:

  • Text Message & Email: A text message and/or an email is sent to families and staff when a closing or delay is decided (the night before or the morning of)

  • School Website: A note on the school website top announcement bar

  • Radio Station: WTOP (1500 AM, 107.7 FM)

  • Television: WJLA News Channel 7

  • School Social Media: Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram

Safety Updates

As a school in a densely populated urban area, the safety of students, staff, and families is of paramount importance.  Please click here (make sure you log into your ParentSquare) to read some recent enhancements. These additional measures supplement training of all staff for a range of potential situations, including fire drills, lockdown drills, and shelter in place. Even as we perform these emergency drills, our goal is to remain calm and composed in front of your children. As parents and caregivers, we invite you to talk to your child about how they experience these drills.

Student Care - Sick Students Should Stay Home

In order to maintain a healthy school, parents/caregivers should not send their children to school with any contagious diseases such as the flu, strep throat, chickenpox, measles, conjunctivitis (pink eye), ringworm, or scabies. Students with any of these conditions will be sent home from school until they are no longer contagious. Parents/caregivers must pick up their child within two hours of being notified that their child is sick with a contagious illness.

To read more about Student Care, visit the Family Handbook in English (page 58) and Spanish (page 62).

Do You Need to Update Your Emergency Contact Information?

Emergencies can happen at any moment on campus, and having current emergency contact information in the school system is critical. Emergency contact information is vital to the ongoing function of campus safety whether it relates to inclement weather or medical emergencies.

Please log into Infinite Campus (student information system) and update the information on the "contact page." Click here to read How to request updates through the parent portal

For health/medical conditions, please notify your campus nurse, so they may best care for them. Feel free to email Health and Safety Manager, Angeline Vergara at avergara@mundoverdepcs.org.
