ACADEMICS

NEW! Rescheduling Celebrations of Learning (EXPOS)

Due to school closures and disruptions during the last two weeks, the Celebrations of Learning scheduled for February had to be rescheduled.

Celebrations of learning are more than a display of student work. The events compel students to reflect on and articulate what they have learned, how they learned, questions they answered, research they conducted, and areas of strength and struggles. They are powerful opportunities to make learning public.

Please find below the NEW dates for the Expos from Kinder to 5th grade:

J.F. Cook Campus:

  • Kinder: February 15

  • 1st Grade: February 13

  • 2nd Grade: February 14

  • 3rd Grade: February 21

  • 4th Grade: February 23

  • 5th Grade: February 22

Calle Ocho Campus:

  • Kinder: February 15

  • 1st Grade: February 13

  • 2nd Grade: February 14

  • 3rd Grade: New Date Coming Soon

  • 4th Grade: New Date Coming Soon

NEW! Rescheduling MAP Testing

Due to school closures and disruptions during the last two weeks, MAP testing will be rescheduled.

MAP is an assessment to measure student Math, English, and Spanish growth and proficiency.

Instructional staff uses this assessment as a data point to help inform instruction for all students. Click on the images to enlarge them.

EVENTS & ACTIVITIES

NEW! Board Meeting - Save the Date!
Feb 15, 6:30-8:30pm

The Mundo Verde Board of Directors will be holding a regular Board meeting on Thursday, February 15. All regular and special board meetings are open to the public, providing the opportunity for stakeholders to observe board operations. The meeting will take place virtually from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.

For questions related to the meeting, email board@mundoverdepcs.org.

NEW! Middle School Fair - Save the Date!
Feb 15, 5:00pm
3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade Families Are Invited

Are you wondering about middle school options? Mundo Verde is collaborating with member schools of the DCI consortium (DC Bilingual, Elsie Whitlow Stokes, LAMB, YuYing, and Mundo Verde Public Charter Schools) to put together a Middle School Fair to help families learn about what options besides D.C. International School (DCI) are available for students as they transition to middle school.

WHEN: Thursday, February 15 from 5:00-6:00 pm
WHERE: 33 Riggs Rd NE, Washington, DC 20011 (DC Bilingual Public Charter School)

While a vast majority of Mundo Verde students continue their education at DCI and perform at a high level within their academic program, not all of them do. The reality is that each member school has steadily grown (or has plans to grow) to serve more students, resulting in DCI reaching a ceiling in its current home in SY25-26. To read the letter sent to 4th and 5th grade families with details about enrollment at DCI, click here (ENG / SPA).

We encourage 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade families to attend the fair to learn about other middle schools currently accepting students in DC. If you are interested in attending, please register here.

If you are interested in volunteering a few hours to support the fair, please email Siobhan Saul, Network Coordinator at ssaul@mundoverdepcs.org.

Fieldwork Fundraising Campaign Will Relaunch in the Spring

The Fieldwork fundraising campaign is taking a momentary pause. We want to assure those who have opted for recurring donations that their scheduled payments will continue as planned. If you are interested in making donations, you can still use https://bit.ly/FieldworkSY24 to give.

Looking ahead, we are gearing up for an exciting relaunch in the spring, with a sharper focus on our two most thrilling trips– adventures that take our students farther with overnight stays and awesome adventures: The 4th grade NatureBridge camping trip and the 5th grade Capstone Trip to Puerto Rico. Your continued support will be pivotal in making these exciting opportunities a reality for all our oldest students.
