Dear Mundo Verde families,
As our 2020-21 school year begins to draw to a close, I am sharing details regarding our work to be open every day for every student this coming fall.
These details were shared in last week’s virtual session with families and the recording and slides from that session are posted to our website. During the session, families were able to provide feedback on plans and discuss topics in more depth in small, facilitated groups.

This Wednesday, June 16 we will celebrate our class of 2021! The promotion ceremony will recognize students for their accomplishments as learners and community stewards at Mundo Verde as they look ahead to a successful transition to middle school.
Join us at 11:00am with a live broadcast on our Mundo Verde Facebook page.
ACADEMIC REMINDERS
Parent Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Wednesday, June 23 for all students in PreK through 5th grade at both campuses. Please contact your teacher to sign up for your virtual conference. Wednesday, June 23 there is no school for students.
Medications - From June 21-25 from 9:00am-3:00pm both campuses will be open for families to pick up student medications. Please ask for Nurse LaShawn at J.F. Cook and Nurse Claudia at Calle Ocho.
Summer Materials - Printed summer activity packets will also be available for pickup. There will also be digital copies available to print at home. More details will be shared in next week’s Family Update. Stay tuned!
We will be collecting all technology (Chromebooks, chargers, and hotspots) that have been distributed to students for the school year 2020-21. Please bring all technology checked out to your child on their last day of in-person school. You can leave it in your child's classroom. If you forget to bring it the last day, please return to J.F. Cook La Casa’s or Calle Ocho’s front desk on June 21-25 between 9:00am-3:00pm. We will again distribute technology to students in August for the 2021-2022 school year.
If your child will be attending the Summer Program, you will still need to return your technology unless the summer program requires it. Staff will ensure there is no damage and re-distribute the technology to you the same day.
If, for whatever reason, you are unable to drop off your computer and charger during the above dates and time, please send an email to platforms@mundoverdepcs.org.
Note: If you do not return your computer on the designated days or make alternative arrangements with your campus, you will be charged for the device. We reserve the right to deny entrance into future activities, such as Extended Day Program, until the device is returned or a payment plan is in place.
It's time to CELEBRATE in community!

FAMILY COMMUNICATIONS & ENGAGEMENT
All Calle Ocho families are invited to participate in a virtual session on Wednesday June 16 from 8:00-9:30pm to develop Comunidad, Calle Ocho’s version of a parent/caregiver organization.
The objective of this meeting is to outline what a caregiver organization could look like where all can collaborate to support the Calle Ocho community. The agenda will include community building, drafting a mission and vision for the organization, and discussing logistics for an initial Comunidad meeting where the draft documents will be reviewed by all.
Stay tuned for the invitation and zoom link!
SCHOOL MEALS
Thank you to everyone who responded to the survey. Due to limited interest, we will not be continuing with meal pickup and delivery throughout the summer. Our J.F. Cook campus kitchen will prepare meals for the summer program only.
The last day to pick up meals will be Friday, June 18 and the last meal deliveries will be made Tuesday, June 22.
There is daily meal distribution continuing through the summer from DCPS and other organizations. Here are some city wide summer food resources:
Free School Meal Sites through Sept 2021
Summer Meal Sites (You can also find a site near you by calling 1-866-3-HUNGRY or texting “FOOD” to 877-877).
If you need food assistance during the summer and do not know how to access it, please reach out to meals@mundoverdepcs.org and we can direct you to resources near your home.
HEALTH & SAFETY
We know many families have questions about returning to school and whether a fully virtual option will be offered next year.
Distance learning for school year 2021-22 will only be available to students with a medical condition that requires distance learning due to COVID-19 as per the city-wide form.
If you believe your child/ren qualifies for a medical exemption and must do virtual learning next fall, please complete these steps by Friday, July 16:
Review this helpful Frequently Asked Questions document from the DC Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE).
Take this quick survey to indicate if you are considering remaining fully virtual for SY21-22 to help us plan. Survey is due June 23, 2021.
Download the OSSE COVID-19 Medical Consent & Certification For Distance Learning, 2021-22 School Year form and complete Page 1. It’s an electronic form, but you can also print it out and write your answers. If you do it electronically, remember to save your work. You may also pick up a paper copy at our front desk.
After Page 1 is done, give the form to your child’s doctor. They will need to complete Page 2, and sign and stamp it.
Completed forms are due July 16, 2021. Please return completed forms to admissions@mundoverdepcs.org or J.F. Cook Campus Front Desk. These forms should not be returned to the school nurse.
The COVID-19 vaccine is now authorized and available for anyone 12 and older. COVID-19 vaccines have been used under the most intensive safety monitoring in U.S. history, including studies in children 12 years and older.
For answers to common questions about the vaccine from physicians and public health officials, check out THESE videos.

STUDENT & FAMILY SUPPORT
The Department of Behavioral Health (DBH) has launched a survey to learn about school behavioral health (SBH) services and supports at all public and public charter schools in DC. These surveys will provide schools with information on family perceptions of school behavioral health services. Mundo Verde will receive a report that can be used to help us complete our school work plans and to monitor delivery of SBH services.
This is a survey to hear your thoughts about, and experiences with, mental/behavioral health. It is anonymous. Your responses will help schools in DC to improve mental/behavioral health services for students and families.
