History

A unique school focused on education for sustainability that combines bilingual education and project-based learning.

    Opens its doors in the Dupont Circle neighborhood serving grade PreK and Kinder

  • August 2012

    Moved to a building on 16th Street NW (adding a grade level every year)

  • 2013

    Selected by the District of Columbia to renovate and reuse a historic school building

  • 2013-14

    The J.F. Cook historic Elementary School is renovated, prioritizing sustainability

  • 2014

    J.F. Cook Campus opens its doors

  • 2015

    The early childhood building is added

  • 2016

    LEED Gold and Platinum Certification

  • 2017

    Seeks campus locations to meet growing demand

  • 2019

    Calle Ocho Campus opens its doors serving grades PreK and Kinder (adding a grade level every year)

  • 2023

    DC Public Charter School Board approves the opening of a second building at the Calle Ocho Campus

  • Summer 2024

    Upgrades to Calle Ocho Campus (including construction of a new building)

Lower and Upper Academies

Mundo Verde has adopted a focused strategy, organizing campuses into Lower Academy (PreK–2nd) and Upper Academy (3rd–5th), each overseen by a dedicated principal and dean of academics. This model enhances principal roles and community bonds within each academy, strengthening greater interactions and connections by nurturing an environment where every student thrives amid unique dynamics.
