Snacks

Do students receive snack during the day?

All students are provided a midday snack. Students who participate in after school also receive a snack after school free of charge.

How much do midday snacks cost?

Full pay families are charged $15/month for snacks and families who qualify for a Free or Reduced Meal are offered snacks at no charge. Mundo Verde will ensure that students are provided with healthy and varied snack options that are purchased from local farms as well as some snacks from Relay foods. The snack fee ensures that Mundo Verde is able to provide healthy and nutritious snacks to each child.

My child doesn't eat certain snacks due to allergies, etc.; do I still have to pay a midday snack fee?

The Food and Wellness Coordinator along with the kitchen staff take into account the allergies of students to ensure that all students are able to eat the midday snack. If a student has allergies or a medical condition that precludes them from eating the majority of the snack options, families may request a waiver from the snack fee. Waivers do not generally result in the entire snack fee being waived since children with allergies are generally able to eat some but not all snack options, and the snack fee also funds snacks at class events. Inquire at info@mundoverdepcs.org for a waiver form.

Preparing your child to enter into a dual language school

My child does not speak any English or Spanish, should we be preparing them for a new language?

There is no expectation that students will have a certain level proficiency in either language. However, the best support that you can provide your child is demonstrating yourself enthusiasm for the foreign language. You may do this by diving together into activities where you are both enjoying the language (for example, through a song or movie) and grappling together to make sense of it (for example, trying to figure out what a sign or title might say). Your modeling of a positive attitude towards language immersion is all your child will really need from you to be successful.

Visiting the school and/or teachers before school starts

Is it possible to visit the school and/or the teachers before school starts?

Through a partnership with the Flamboyan Foundation, Mundo Verde conducs home visits before school starts and throughout the school year. Home visits are an opportunity for teachers and families to build stronger relationships with each other.

If your child has special needs you would like us to be aware of before the school year starts, please contact Special Education Coordinator, Peling Li at pli@mundoverdepcs.org.
